From the 5th to the 9th August 2018, I had the privilege to lead 42 members of the Royal British Legion around the Western Front in France and Belgium. You were just a fraction of the 2,500 members attending the Royal British Legion Great Pilgrimage 90th Anniversary event (to commemorate the first Great Pilgrimage event held in 1928), but definitely the best group!
The highlight of the tour was undoubtedly the march through Ypres on Wednesday 8th, an event and sight I’ll never forget. Whilst I barely had time to take pictures on Monday and Tuesday, you were all a bit busy on Wednesday and so I took as many pictures as I could before my decrepit phone ran out of memory. I’m afraid some of the pictures are a bit random or out of focus, but I’ve included them anyway in case anyone spots themselves.
To get a full size copy of the picture, click on it and you’ll be taken to another screen. Down in the bottom right corner is a link to the full size picture. Once it’s open, either drag the picture to your desktop, or right click and select save.
I had a wonderful time and I hope all of you did too. Thank you so much for the gifts and feedback, and for the card that I received from the Isle of Wight branch just this week.
Don’t forget, feel free to get in touch if you want to know any more about some of the things we saw, or if you have any other queries about local history. You can reach me from this page.
