Given the mix of high speed boats, guns and daring deeds, it’s perhaps surprising that Coastal Forces has not been the subject of more than one Hollywood feature film. Of course, Hollywood has largely concentrated on it’s own and so the two most famous films about the ‘little ships’ feature PT boats instead of MTBs; They were Expendable (1945) and PT 109 (1963). The one film that does feature the Royal Navy’s little ships, Hell Boats (1970), is not what could really be described as a classic of the period.
Fortunately there are a few British films that have featured Coastal Forces, although they tend to be quite old. The earliest date from the war years and the most recent dates to 1955. There is a mix of short documentaries, feature films and even adverts that provide us with a tantalising glimpse of these boats at the height of their fame.
